One of the most frequent questions we get at Full Circle Beauty is "how often should I be getting facials?" The short answer: it depends on your skin type, concerns, and goals. But there's a framework that works for almost everyone — and understanding it will help you get the most out of your skincare investment.
The General Rule: Every 4–6 Weeks
Your skin naturally renews itself on a cycle of roughly 28–30 days. A professional facial that is timed with this cycle ensures you're treating new skin before buildup, clogging, or dullness sets in. For most clients with normal to combination skin and no major concerns, once every 4–6 weeks is the ideal frequency.
Think of it as maintenance, not a treat. A facial every month or two keeps your skin consistently healthy — rather than coming in once a year for a deep rescue mission.
By Skin Type
Oily or Acne-Prone Skin
If you have oily skin or are dealing with active breakouts, more frequent facials are beneficial. Every 3–4 weeks allows your esthetician to keep pores clear, manage sebum production, and address breakouts before they escalate. Deep cleansing facials and extractions are especially valuable here.
Dry or Dehydrated Skin
Dry skin benefits from regular professional hydration treatments. Once a month is ideal — your esthetician can infuse moisture, treat dry patches, and recommend at-home products that support what we do in the studio. In San Diego's warm, dry climate, many clients with naturally dry skin find monthly facials make a dramatic difference.
Sensitive Skin
If your skin is sensitive or reactive, every 6 weeks is usually a better starting point. This gives skin time to recover and benefit from treatments without over-stimulating. We'll use gentler techniques and formulas tailored to your skin's specific sensitivities.
Mature or Aging Skin
For clients focused on anti-aging — reducing fine lines, improving firmness, boosting collagen production — monthly facials are highly recommended. Collagen-stimulating treatments like microdermabrasion work best with consistent, regular sessions over time rather than occasional treatments.
What Happens If You Come Less Often?
There's nothing wrong with getting facials less frequently, especially if your skin is generally healthy. But you'll notice more buildup, more dullness between visits, and slower progress on any specific concerns. Quarterly facials (4 times per year) can still make a noticeable improvement over no professional care at all.
When to Come More Often: A Skin Reboot
If you're starting fresh — new to facials, recovering from a breakout, or trying to address a specific issue — we often recommend coming in more frequently for the first 2–3 months. This "reboot" phase accelerates results. After that, you can space out to a maintenance schedule.
