Lash Lift vs. Lash Extensions: Which Is Better?

Longer, more dramatic lashes are a goal for many of our clients. The two most popular options — lash lift and lash extensions — both achieve that goal, but in very different ways. Here's how they compare so you can decide which is right for you.

What Is a Lash Lift?

A lash lift is a semi-permanent treatment that curls your natural lashes from the base, creating the appearance of longer, more open eyes. No extensions are added — we're simply lifting and setting your existing lashes in a beautiful upward curl. We often pair a lash lift with a lash tint for even more definition.

At Full Circle Beauty, a lash lift is $99 and takes about 50 minutes. Results last 6–8 weeks. Lash tint is $30 additional, and many clients do both together.

What Are Lash Extensions?

Lash extensions are individual synthetic, mink, or silk fibers that are bonded one by one to your natural lashes using semi-permanent adhesive. The result is dramatic volume and length that looks like you're always wearing mascara. Extensions require fills every 2–3 weeks as your natural lashes shed.

Cost Comparison

A lash lift is a one-time service with a single upfront cost (typically $99–$150) that lasts 6–8 weeks. Lash extensions involve a higher initial investment ($150–$300+ for a full set) plus regular fill appointments every 2–3 weeks ($65–$100 each). Over a year, lash extensions cost significantly more than regular lash lifts.

Maintenance

Lash lift maintenance is minimal: avoid water for 24 hours after the treatment, then carry on with your normal routine. No special cleansers required, no lash combs, no sleeping restrictions after the first day.

Lash extensions require daily upkeep. You'll need to avoid oil-based products near your eyes, sleep on your back or use a silk pillowcase, brush your extensions daily, and attend fill appointments every 2–3 weeks. Skipping fills makes extensions look patchy as natural lashes shed.

Damage Potential

When done properly by a skilled technician, both services are safe. However, lash extensions do carry a higher risk of lash damage if fills are skipped, if you rub your eyes, or if the adhesive bond puts too much weight on fine natural lashes. A lash lift, by comparison, treats only your existing lashes and causes minimal damage when performed correctly.

Which Is Right for You?

  • Choose a lash lift if: You want low-maintenance enhancement, a natural-looking result, you're active (gym, pool, beach), or you want to simplify your morning routine.
  • Choose lash extensions if: You want dramatic volume and length, you're willing to commit to fills and upkeep, or you have a special event coming up.

Not sure? A lash lift with tint is a great starting point — it's lower commitment, lower cost, and most clients are thrilled with how much of a difference it makes.
